Detroit to DC

Argyle Public Affairs was founded by Rob Runyan, a Detroit native turned Washington public affairs practitioner with more than 17 years of experience across the private sector, the federal government and nonprofit organizations. Rob combines Midwestern hustle and humility with pressure-tested DC experience in policy and politics.

Most recently, Rob spent nine years at Citi, one of the world's most closely regulated and politically scrutinized financial institutions, across two senior roles. He led communications strategy to advance Citi's policy interests by shaping the external narrative through owned, earned and paid media. This included preparing two different CEOs for their first Congressional testimony during five committee hearings over the course of five years.

He later built Citi's third-party public policy engagement function from the ground up — working with firm leadership to fund, hire and manage the team and strategy.

Prior to Citi, Rob served as a spokesperson at the U.S. Treasury Department and as a press secretary and digital director in the United States Senate. He also worked for energy and tech clients at a large public relations firm and managed public affairs for an international NGO.

Rob holds a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Denison University.
